Our Running Program

A 4-week rotating schedule using a scientific approach with heart rate-based training

Week 1: Steady State

Focus on maintaining a consistent heart rate zone. Tailored distances/durations for all levels.

Duration: Beg (20-30m), Int (30-40m), Adv (40m+)

Week 2: Intervals

High-intensity bursts followed by recovery periods. Varied reps based on level.

Rest: 90-120 seconds between intervals.

Week 3: Fartlek/Speed Play

Unstructured intervals mixing easy and tempo paces for a fun, challenging workout.

Duration: Beg (20-30m), Int (30-40m), Adv (40m+)

Week 4: Hill & Strength

Build power and endurance with targeted hill repeats and bodyweight strength exercises.

Repeats: Customized distances/times.

Common questions about our running club

Do I need to be an experienced runner to join?

Not at all! Kiwi Running Hero welcomes everyone, from complete beginners and walkers to seasoned marathoners. Our rotating weekly program (Steady State, Intervals, Fartlek, Hills) is designed with modifications for different levels. Our coaches will help you find the right intensity and distance for you.

What should I bring to the running sessions?

Please wear comfortable running shoes and appropriate workout clothing for the weather. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Optional but recommended: a watch or fitness tracker (especially for heart rate training weeks) and a small towel. Most importantly, bring a positive attitude!

Where and when do the sessions take place?

We meet every Saturday morning at 8:30 AM sharp at The Exercise Room, G05/100 Parnell Road, Parnell. We utilize various scenic and safe routes in the surrounding Parnell and Domain areas, chosen based on the week's training focus.

What if I miss a week or can't make Saturdays?

No problem! The Single Visit Pass ($29.99/session) is perfect if you can only make it occasionally. If you choose a Monthly Flex, 6 Month, or 12 Month pass, you still get great value even if you miss a session here and there. While the main coached session is Saturday, being part of the community might connect you with others for runs on different days.

How does the charity contribution work?

We're proud to support The Women's Suffrage charity. 10% of the revenue generated from all membership fees (Single Visit, Monthly, 6 Month, and 12 Month passes) is donated directly to support their important work.
