Emile's Back From Helsinki!
A Deep Dive into Fitness and Rehabilitation: Emile Palmer’s Journey with David Devices
In the world of fitness and rehabilitation, staying ahead means embracing innovation. Emile Palmer, a lifestyle medicine practitioner and owner of The Exercise Room in Auckland, is at the forefront of this evolution. Recently, he took part in an educational journey with Nordic Health to explore cutting-edge rehabilitation solutions and how they can benefit his clients. His insights into the integration of David devices, including the Eve system, reveal the critical role technology plays in enhancing musculoskeletal care.
Gaining Technical and Clinical Expertise
Emile’s experience at Nordic Health was a deep dive into both the technical and clinical aspects of the devices. On the technical side, he and his peers received training in troubleshooting and maintaining the fitness and rehabilitation devices.
"We were put through typical troubleshooting scenarios when mechanical or technical issues arise. The deep dive into Eve and the devices gave me the confidence that I can deal with anything, even when I’m far away from support.”
This hands-on education has equipped him with the confidence to integrate the technology into his clinic effectively.
Bringing Innovation to Auckland
Although The Exercise Room currently operates without David devices, Emile is preparing to integrate them into his facility. His journey began in 2024 when he first came across David’s rehabilitation solutions on social media. Intrigued by the company’s claims of 96% efficacy in treating joint and musculoskeletal pain, Emile reached out for more information, which led him to Melbourne to see the devices firsthand. “I could see the devices, I could see the science behind them, and my interest only grew stronger,” he said.
Preparing for Implementation
As he waits for the devices to arrive in Auckland, Emile is laying the groundwork for their successful integration. “I’ve been using this time to build the right team and establish the necessary infrastructure,” he shared. Emile knows that having the best equipment is only part of the equation. “You can have all the best devices in the world, but if you don’t have the right personnel with the right heart, it’s just another device,” he explained.
Why David Devices and the Eve System?
Emile’s clinic follows a holistic approach to health and wellness, focusing on physical, mental, emotional, soul, and spiritual health movement. David’s devices align perfectly with this philosophy, providing effective solutions for musculoskeletal rehabilitation. “The devices support not only rehabilitation but also provide a user-friendly experience that will be great for clients who aren’t comfortable in a traditional gym setting,” Emile explained.
Overcoming Challenges in Healthcare Investment
Emile acknowledges that the cost of the David devices is a consideration. However, he believes it’s a long-term investment that will save money by preventing the need for expensive surgeries. “A spinal surgery can cost $95,000, while a David device offers a proactive solution that could prevent such procedures,” he pointed out. “How much would you pay for something that could potentially save you from surgery?” he asked, highlighting the value of investing in high-quality rehabilitation solutions.
Looking Ahead
“The goal is to help people live their best lives, in a balanced environment that includes the right exercise, nutrition, and mindset,” Emile concluded. As his clinic continues to evolve, his commitment to wellness and innovation ensures that The Exercise Room will be a leader in providing effective rehabilitation solutions for his community.
The Pull-Up Challenge
Why You Should Be Doing Them & How to Get There!
Pull-ups are one of the best upper-body exercises, building strength in your back, shoulders, arms, and core. They improve posture, grip strength, and overall athletic performance. Pull-ups are a great indicator of how strong you are, and this month we will help you get there.
Variations of Pull-Ups
- Standard Pull-Up: Overhand grip (palms facing away), targeting the upper back and biceps.
- Chin-Up: Underhand grip (palms facing you), emphasizing the biceps and lower lats.
Building Up to an Unassisted Pull-Up
If you’re not there yet, don’t worry! Here is a step-by-step progression to help you get to your first unassisted pull-up:
- TRX/Ring Rows (3x10 reps): Build pulling strength in a horizontal position before progressing to vertical pulling.
- Incline Pull-Up (3x10 reps): A body weight row to build upper body and core strength. Preparation towards the real deal.
- Assisted Pull-Ups (3x10 reps): Use resistance bands or an assisted pull-up machine to develop proper movement patterns.
- Unassisted Pull-Up (5x1 rep): Once you have mastered one, slowly increase your numbers!
Coach’s Corner: Getting the Most out of your Pull-Up
Are you struggling with pull-ups? Try focusing on scapular engagement. Before pulling yourself up, initiate the movement by pulling your shoulder blades down and back. This activates the right muscles and prevents any excessive strain on your arms. Stay consistent, and aim to train pull-ups 2-3 times per week. Need help? Ask our trainers for guidance on form and progression.
